What We Do

Because Caring is Our Calling...

In a world that is constantly changing, it is comforting to know there is always a hand willing to reach out to help others in times of crisis. When families feel they have no where to turn, our helping hands offer a balance to lives, warmth to families and a place where they can get a hand up.

We do so much more than just hand out bags of food…..

We are here to help families who are dealing with difficult life circumstances by assisting with food every 30 days. We also have holiday food distribution, backpacks, and a Christmas gift shop for families with children. Bixby Outreach wants to be the “Hand Up”!

OUR SERVICES

FOOD PANTRY

Our food pantry provides local families in need with a monthly distribution of perishable and non-perishable foods, toiletries, baby care items, and more. The food pantry is also part of the USDA food program. On average, it costs the BOC about $30 to feed a family of 4 for 1 day.  Historically, the BOC provides enough food for a family for 3 meals a day for 3-5 days.

GUEST SELECT SHOPPING

The guest choice-model allows pantry guests to select culturally appropriate foods, meet individual health and dietary needs and select foods that are familiar and enjoyed just as they would in a grocery store. Guests are allowed to shop for food every 30 days. We offer guest select grocery appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10AM to 3PM.

HOME DELIVERY

For clients who, for medical as well as transportation issues, are unable to come into the BOC to receive monthly food assistance, we provide monthly food delivery. We also provide these services to area assisted living facilities.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Each year, we help ease the growing costs of back to school shopping by providing children with a new backpack and the grade specific school items needed for the school year. BOC also helps first year teachers with classroom supplies to help them off to a great start!

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

At times, due to emergencies, job loss or unexpected circumstances, people may find themselves in need of temporary benevolent help. Financial assistance is designed to be a one-time service to assist a client who is experiencing extenuating circumstances (higher than normal utility bill, unexpected expense, etc.) with being able to meet certain financial obligations.

BREAK BAGS

During school closures, each school age child receives a highly nutritious food bag just for them when families come into the BOC for services. We also provide a family food bag of extra proteins and foods. Our goal is to offset the potential increase in the family food budget and to make sure children who normally receive free or reduced meals and snacks through the school don’t go hungry during school breaks.

SEASONAL SERVICES

In addition to our regular services, we assist families during special times of the year. Seasonal services include Holiday Gift Shop, Shop with a Cop, and Thanksgiving & Christmas meal distributions.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide opportunities for those we serve to engage in their progress towards stability and sustainability and to create a stronger community through building healthy community members.
